GT American-Cheese is a result of my belief in the vast emotional capacity that typography holds. This, combined with my interest in expanding the ways in which variable type functions, led to a six-month exploration of dairy-based animations. GT American-Cheese is a type animation derived from GT America Bold, a font designed by the Swiss type foundry Grilli Type. The letters were created by 3D-printing cut-dies for each character. To create the animation, I melted slices of American cheese on a hotplate, which I transformed into a green screen. The typeface varies based on the degree to which the cheese is melted.
